Pictures of Natalie-Week 2

Tue ,19/07/2011

I try and send a picture of Natalie to Jordan everyday that way when he’s at work he can see what’s going on at home.

I love waking up to her sweet little face, I can’t believe how much of a personality she already has.

Awesome Date Night

Mon ,18/07/2011

Way back in December at Jordan’s Work Christmas Party, we won a free hotel stay in Springfield. We hadn’t used it and it was about to expire, so we decided that we would take a weeknight and go out to dinner, see a movie, and stay at the hotel.

We got movie vouchers from Groupon for Fandango so we got both of our movie tickets for $8 for the expensive theater. Jordan got a gift card for dinner at Cheddars so this date was almost free (minus the gas).

I picked Jordan up from work and we went to Cheddar’s for dinner. It’s probably our favorite restaurant to go eat at because it is cheap and we usually share an entree. We usually get onion rings and the chicken tender platter, but this time we shared the philly cheesesteak sandwich. It was pretty good, but I still like the chicken tenders better :).

After dinner we had some time to kill before the movie started. I think we went to Sam’s Club, because it is pretty close to the movie theater we were going to see the movie at. When we got to the movie theater, we went in and watched Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. It was better than I thought it was going to be. It wasn’t as good as the first movie, but it was better than 2 and 3 (maybe because the Will/Elizabeth love thing wasn’t part of this movie).

After the movie we headed to the hotel. One really weird thing happened, my feet got so swollen that they were numb when I walked. I never had that happen before, so it was really weird for me. My feet got so swollen that I couldn’t put my shoes back on. (It wasn’t the last time that it happened). We got to the hotel and went to sleep as soon as we got there. The next morning we ate breakfast at the breakfast buffet at the hotel and Jordan went to work. It was a lot of fun. It was also nice to have time together with just the two of us before Natalie Joined our family.

Memorial Day Party

Sun ,17/07/2011

On Memorial Day we had an awesome party. Jordan had the great idea of making grilled pizzas. We made grilled pizzas and had a bar of toppings so everyone could put whatever they wanted on their pizzas. They were delicious, they taste different than normal pizza, and have their own unique flavor.

You can make them by either buying refrigerated pizza crust from the store, or making your own pizza crust (the homemade holds up better). After making a normal pizza crust, divide the dough into individual sized pizza portions. This makes it easier to get on and off the grill, and who doesn’t like their own pizza? After dividing, roll out into individual pizzas, place tin foil on the grill, spray with cooking spray and grill the crusts so they are precooked.

After the crusts are cooked, assemble the pizzas! First put the sauce, then cheese, then toppings. If you want your toppings cooked, precook them first the grill won’t cook them too much.

There must be something about parties and our house. Rachel went into labor the day after our Memorial Day party and had her baby the day after that. I went into labor the day after our 4th of July Party and had Natalie that day. I guess we need a third person to try it out on…:)

I’ll take a picture Sunday of what I look like now. That way I at least I’ll look somewhat nice and there will be an actual baby in the picture and not just a giant belly.

Double Rainbow after storm

Fri ,15/07/2011

On May 22, Jordan and I were sitting at home waiting for our friends to come over when our neighbor came over and told us that the hospital in Joplin had been destroyed by a tornado. We turned on our emergency radio and sure enough, there was a tornado warning for our area. I’m not going to lie, it was pretty scary, I usually just ignore the sirens . The sky turned a green/yellow color and there was a ton of hail and rain. After it was all done, we looked outside and there was a beautiful double rainbow.

Jordan’s Biking Adventures

Thu ,14/07/2011

Jordan has progressively gotten into several different forms of exercise in the past year or two. When we moved out from Utah, Jordan was using the treadmill and lifting weights. After he had gotten on a good schedule with that, he started swimming in the mornings. Well, in April, Jordan and I decided that it would be a good idea if he started biking, not only for exercise, but to also save money on gas. I keep telling him he should sign up for a triathlon.

Jordan found a bike at REI that he liked:

Now, if you know Jordan, you know that he never, ever makes a big purchase unless he does research on it and thinks about it for a long time (weeks and sometimes months). So, after all his research, he settled on this bike, one that he could ride on the road, but also go mountain biking with. So we went to REI (and the temple, we always go to the temple and REI when we go to St Louis), and got the bike as well as the roof rack.

Jordan came home and loved the bike the first time he rode it. However, after he started to ride it and put the front wheel on, the disk brake started to grind and this makes it very difficult to ride smoothly, and causes a lot more exertion on the rider than when the bike is working properly. After several frustrating rides, we decided to take the bike back and get another one from a bike store around here.

Jordan had a Trek bike in Utah and the back tire got stolen, so he sold it. Jordan did some research on Trek bikes and decided on this one:

After Jordan got this bike, he loves riding his bike to work. He drives his car to the YMCA and bikes to and from work every day.

Lake Springfield Float Trip

Wed ,13/07/2011

In April, we went on Lake Springfield with the Armstrongs. The James River and other rivers around here were so  swollen from the rainfall, that small streams leading to them were as wide as the river was.

The Armstrongs had floated on this particular section of Lake Springfield before, so they knew good spots to start and stop. As we were driving to the start point, we kept noticing that parts of the road had been washed out by all the rain, but that didn’t deter us. So Jordan and Mike stopped and dropped Jen, their kids, and me at the start point. It seemed to take a really long time for them to get back with the car (longer than it should have if they were just dropping it off and coming back). They got back and told us that they couldn’t get to the part that the wanted to float to because the lake had flooded and they couldn’t get to it. So they parked maybe a half a mile away and that’s how far we were going.

Needless to say, 1/2 of mile doesn’t take that long to float down. So we made it more interesting by rowing upstream, floating down, and repeating until the Armstrongs had to leave for a birthday party. One really funny thing that happened was that the place where Jordan and Mike parked the cars was pretty steep and super muddy, so pretty much everyone got out of boats, slipped down slope, and got really muddy.

Later that day there was a ward activity for our new ward (our ward was split to make two wards). Jordan rode his bike to the park, rode it around during the activity and played soccer and other sports with the people (mostly youth) from the ward.

Lawn Mower + Frogs = x(

Tue ,12/07/2011

With all the rain we had in April, there were a ton of frogs. I think frogs are much cuter in cartoons or on baby clothes than they are in real life. I think they are fun to take pictures of and usually when I mow I try and pick them up or “help” them get out of the way of the lawn mower.

On May 13 (I only remember the day because it was Friday the 13th). I was mowing the lawn and ran over a big frog :(. I about threw up when I figured out what I had done. I called Jordan at work and told him what I had done. He said he would clean it up when he got home and so I just mowed around where it was. It wasn’t until I was done that I figured out that it wasn’t done totally dead, because it had hopped over to some close by grass :(.

Jordan tried to feed the frog to the chickens, but they wouldn’t eat it. I also wouldn’t take care of them as long as it was there. We haven’t killed any frogs since then.

New member of our family

Sun ,10/07/2011

Ok, here are the details of the birth of our wonderful daughter Natalie Christine.

We had our 4th of July party at our house Monday night.  By the time everyone left, it was around 11 to 11:30 and we promptly went to bed.  Around midnight, Emily woke up and started to have contractions.  She shortly thereafter woke me up.  I convinced her to stay at the house for as long as she felt comfortable to since that’s what they told us to do.  We played some Lego Harry Potter and ate breakfast and took showers.  We finally left the house at 2:30a.m. and Emily got officially admitted into the hospital at 3:30a.m.  She had the baby at 5:10a.m. so it was an amazing delivery.  She had to push like maybe 5-6 times.  She did tear some and had to get stitches and that is what has led to some recovery problems but she didn’t even get an epidural which was amazing.  She went into the delivery not wanting an epidural but during some of the hard contractions, she quickly changed her mind but she was already fully dilated so she just pushed and the baby came out!  We were so excited!  The hospital was great.  We really like that when Natalie came out, they put her right on Emily so they could bond while they cleaned her up.  I was able to hold her shortly thereafter.  She was 6lbs 11oz 19 inches long and 100% cute.
