Letters from Ryan January-April 2009

Wow, it’s been a long time since we put Ryan’s letters up. So here are all his letters from January 6 to April 14

April 14

Well this week was ok. We did a lot of work and ended the week with those seven people with a baptismal date and we taught 29 lessons. That is the most I have ever had! The work was great but I did however lose my camera which really stinks and I looked all over for it wherever we had gone after it disappeared and nothing. I am really sad that I lost it. Otherwise things are ok. I found out that I am being transferred and so is elder Larson and elder Rogers, they are closing Lawton Spanish and the Lawton first ward is going to be turned over to sisters and I am going to the Marshallese branch in Enid for a transfer. It will be pretty crazy but president asked me to do it so I am going to. It sounds pretty exciting and very new to me. President called it a “one transfer adventure”.  Thanks for the package too the ring fits perfectly and the treats are awesome. One funny story is one of the people we have a date with named Toni was living with here boyfriend who also had a date and when we taught them the law of chastity she kicked her boyfriend out of the house to keep the law of chastity. It was pretty cool, for her not for him. Well I hope you all have a great week and always have hope.

Hi everyone,
Things are good here nothing to complain about. The Spanish work here which was slow before has just about died we really don’t have any Hispanics  to teach that have a lot of potential but we did set 7 baptismal dates in the last week with people that seem really prepared for the gospel. On Friday Elder Rogers crashed his bike and bent his wheel, I’ll send a picture, and so we have to drive everywhere for now till he gets it fixed. Transfers are coming up and we find out next Monday what is going to happen. there are only 5 missionaries coming in and about 13 will have left by the end of the transfer 5 were sent home and all five were from the Lawton area and the other 8 are just ending like elders Rodriguez and Carlson. I actually got to see elder Rodriguez last Friday when the assistants came down to go to the military base. I told him that he should visit the house when he gets home and meet you all. He lives in West Jordan so it’s not too far. Conference was awesome I loved just listening to the prophets and I learned a ton I took 16 pages of notes again and I think I might fill up the journal that mom sent me in the MTC for conference and other notes by the next one so I’ll have to do something. I heard about the bible in Spanish and how it will be done in September (wink, wink maybe before the 20th, Big Wink, REALLY BIG WINK no hints or anything implied). I am really excited I like the one we use but it does have some strange wording at parts and looses some of the power.

well really not much to tell this week just an average week there really wasn’t too much excitement we did have super conference but that was about it the rest of the week was just kind of boring no fun stories. but i did get to see most of my MTC district and my “Father” elder Hales. but that was about it. sorry there wasn’t more but I’ve been a little sick a strange gross cough thing but I’m going to a doctor today to get some medicine and get better.

hi everyone,
another week gone and another interview with the mission president. it went as the rest do he told me to keep being obedient and just keep working. apart from that just another normal week. the assistants on saturday night brought over three books from a member that i helped move in the city and  i saw three history books that belonged to the pervious owner of the house left and they gave them to the assistants to give to me. they are from 1909 and way cool but i will have to send them home at some point, the president asked me to, but no worries. we did have to go to the doctor yesterday because elder larson hurt his finger but it was not a huge deal. last night we got caught in a pretty bad storm but we’re all fine. hope your all doing great and that nothing is going wrong just have faith and all will work out.

Hi everyone,
Things are good here and not much has changed really. Still working and moving.  My bike chain broke yesterday and we had to get it fixed.  That’s about the most exciting thing that has happened in the last week.  Apart from that just normal stuff. Things are moving along here slowly but moving at least.  Well not much else to say have a GREAT week and always put your trust in the lord!

Hi everyone,
well another week gone by.  Things are ok here in Oklahoma.  The new area I am in is Lawton spanish we cover the entire city of lawton.  The area is not doing much at this point we are trying to find Hispanics but there really are not very many here but we are doing what we can to find them.  It is a big change from my last area and I am not used to an English ward.  I really do not like going to an English ward I prefer the Spanish branch.  it is lot more fun.  the English ward just seems kind of stiff and boring.  But I’ll adjust to it.  Otherwise, things really have not changed much.  Just the same missionary work as always.  I love you all and have a great week.

hi everyone,
i hope your all doing great! i’m doing good here. things are moving along and about the same last tuesday the first tornados hit but they were far away from us here. things were just really windy and wet, LOTS of rain.
otherwise things are good the family is doing great and the president of the branch here is helping them find a laywer to help them to get married and then baptised. things are moving along really well we helped a member move on sunday and the new house was not lived in by the person that owned it and it was stacked with a ton of old stuff and it smelled really weird elder greenwood and i called it the cancer house because you feel like you are getting cancer just by being in it. but by the time we left it wasn’t too bad. we also had family home evening with the branch president’s family and the montoya’s  it was really fun and they seemed to like it. but everything else is about the same we had zone confrence on thursday and that was really good the president talked for about an hour on obedience because other missionaries have been having problems with that. i really enjoyed it. everything else is pretty much the same. no funny stories that i can remember but i’ll send some pictures for you all to see. have a great week Love you ALL!!!

January 13

hi everybody,
things are going good. not much has changed this week. we are still teaching, biking, and freezing but it’s all good. we actually helped a member family put a floor in last saturday, the carpet they had was about 12 years old so we helped them put in a linolium floor for their family room, they have 7 kids and 4 are younger then 10. on sunday we watched the broadcast from the marriot center from president monson with the family we found and the branch president. they really liked it and the message he gave. then we went with the branch president to go and visit a member whose wife is in the hospital, they really appriciated it and we got a referal for the elders in the north. this branch is really nice they help a lot in the missionary work. transfers are coming up so we’ll have to see what happens. otherwise not much is new things are still moving along and are good. i hope your all doing great and have a fun time in whatever is going on.

Ryan’s Letter 1-6-09

hi everyone!
i hope your all enjoying the new year and life in general. things are good here. we got a baptismal date set with some new investigator in the first lesson with them! it was really awesome. they are kindof old but that’s ok. apart from that things are good we’ve got a good pool of investigators and they all seem pretty good but we’ll see with time but this area has a lot of potential. well i’ve got to go hope your all doing great love you bye!

Ryan’s letter

Hi Family,
Things are going pretty good didn’t do much this week because of sickness. we had some good lessons though one really good one was with the branch president, President Espinosa, it was a really good lesson and our investigator, Ramon, really seemed to understand it well. he also said that he recieved some awnswers to his prayers and he is going to meditate on them. i’m am really excited for him. on saturday we got to go to the temple and help with baptisms for the dead and we were witnesses i really enjoyed visiting the temple and feeling the spirit there again. there was also a baptism on saturday for another companionships investigator and she seemed really excited to be baptized. it is a really small temple though i was suprised. right now it is just kind of cold and humid. outside right now it is about 16 degrees and that’s no fun on a bike but we’ll be ok. otherwise our invertigators are doing good, the family we found and have taught three times now is really awesome and we have a lot of hope for them, they really seem to understand and seem excited about living prophets. we hope to talk a lot about joseph smith next visit. this thursday we get to go to the temple again i’m really excited to do a session in the temple and feel the spirit there. but otherwise i’m doing good. well i went to the doctor last week because for the last few weeks the cold has really been hurting my joints and the doctor said that i have a form of spinal arthritis i guess but i’ll have to see what happens it’s not to bad just annoying. everything else is good though there is just work to do. talk to you all in a week and i’ll call you on christmas!

Ryan’s letter to family

Dear Family,
things are going good. there is really not much to report. I couldn’t leave the apartment on monday and on wendsday and thursday the same thing happened. on friday and saturday i was with Elder Greenwood, from the MTC, while Elder Hales and Elder Romney, Elder Greenwood’s companion, went out and worked. Elder Greenwood hurt his back on preperation day catching a football and we think ha pulled something and i was just feeling really gross, you know the whole cold thing. but i’m doing better now. so don’t go crazy i’m good. i got some medicine and i feel much better now. needless to say i’ve had a lot of time to think and to study. i don’t know why but i just felt like reading the bible dictionary from the begining and it is really interesting. i have learned a lot from reading that and from just listening to confrence on my ipod. we had a few lessons though this week we had a really good one with ramon and had a great member present lesson with the new family we found, it was really nice. thank you all for the package that i got i really enjoyed opening it and seeing all of the goodies inside i’m excited to make the brownies and to read and study the ensign. but yep that’s about it nothing too exciting this week but last week there was something really funny that happened with a dog. this dog tried to chase us and out of nowhere came a suburban it hit the dog, didn’t hurt it or anything, but it went right over it and then the dog ran away and stopped chasing us. it was very strange but very funny we called it the judgement. all is going good though it looks like i’m going to stay in this area for another transfer with Elder Hales. i’m excited to see what will happen. well i hope you all have a great week and are enjoying life, just don’t worry about me i’m doing great and remember that all will work out in the end just trust in the lord.

Letter from Ryan

HI everyone,
things have been good here we have got some new people to teach and we have high hopes for them. one is a family and the other is a man and his cousin they all seem interested and seemed to understand the lessons well. tracting is a little hard right now because most hispanics don’t like to open their door when it’s cold, sometimes they sen their kids to tell us their sleeping, that’s kindof funny sometimes. it’s mildly annoying but not too bad most of the time they say thing like “my mommy told me to tell you she’s sleeping.” i’ve got the stuff i need for the cold. i’ve been a little sick but its nothing too bad i’ll be better in a day or two. I had to stay in the apartment yesterday by order of the president’s wife so i just kind of rested but i couldn’t sleep so i studied and tried to relax. there are transfers in about a week so i’ll see what happens. Elder Hales thinks i’m going to stay here, but i don’t know, i’ll find out next monday. otherwise things are about the same the dogs are still in the streets, its still windy and things are good around here. Thanksgiving we had dinner with a member family who are really nice, they invited a neighbor over at random who was a little tipsy but he was still very nice and listened and remembered what we said. it was a nice day not to much else has happened otherwise. i hope your all doing great and that everythings all right with you and well i’ll talk to you all in a week.
Love,

Ryan’s Mission Call

Yesterday Ryan opened his mission call, Jordan guessed it dead on, he told Ryan he looked like an Oklahoma kind of guy and guess what! He got called to the Oklahoma City, Oklahoma Mission. He reports to the MTC on August 27, 2008. We’re so excited for him.
